Accidents by drunk drivers are said to be responsible for killing a person every 48 minutes in the United States. Driving under the influence of alcohol continues to be a problem in Texas, and law enforcement agencies here are cracking down on drunk drivers. Nevertheless, those who are arrested and charged for driving while intoxicated still have options for a DUI defense at their disposal.
Late night arrests
Reportedly, a popular Texas fast-food restaurant has been helping police crack down on drunk drivers. A Whataburger restaurant in Lytle just southwest of San Antonio is open 24 hours and is one of the only options in the area for food late at night. According to employees, several suspected drunk drivers have fallen asleep behind the wheel in the drive-thru line.
Lytle police said employees are quick to notify them when these incidents occur, which have led to several arrests and DWI charges. In one recent incident, a driver fell asleep while waiting at the drive-thru. Reports said police arrived and found that the 26-year-old male driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested and charged, police said.
Legal help
Being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated is a serious situation. Yet, a charge is not considered to be proof of anything at all. Those in Texas who have been charged with DWI should know they have options available for criminal defense. A knowledgeable and skilled legal representative can determine a strategy to achieve the best possible outcome and safeguard the personal rights of those accused.
