Two-car accident leads to multiple injuries and one fatality
According to Patch News, the incident occurred on March 30th around the 5500 block of East Parmer Lane. The police report states that the driver of a silver, 2009 Hummer H3 failed to yield to a gray, 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML3. The H3 was traveling south over the eastbound lanes of the street at the time. The Mercedes-Benz ran into the passenger’s side of the Hummer during the incident.
Two children passengers were in the Hummer at the time. They were promptly rushed to Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas due to their sustained injuries. One of the children passed away from her injuries after 5 days in the medical center. The other child sustained critical injuries for which they underwent emergency surgery.
The car accident marked the 24th fatal crash in just Austin this year, according to the police. At the same point last year, there were 17 traffic accidents. There is no speculation as to why there are so many more accidents this year.
In the state of Texas, when a DWI results in death or serious bodily injury, the guilty party may face either a second- or third-degree felony. These charges can include prison time of up to 10 years and a fine of up to $10,000.
